Meet Melanie Adams, LCSW
Hi! My name is Melanie Adams. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I became a social worker because I feel called to love and serve others as best I can. No matter your race, ethnicity, cultural background, spiritual background, or socioeconomic status/background, EVERYONE needs help and support at some point and need a safe space in which that can happen. I believe people do the best they can with what they have. If I’m able to provide a safe place for growth, emotional expression, support and/or counsel, I’d love the opportunity to do that!
A little bit about me — I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Baylor University (Sic ‘Em Bears!) I worked in child welfare for some years between my degrees and have been working in mental health since graduating with my master’s.
My background in social work and mental health is fairly diverse. I’ve worked with all ages from infants/toddler and parents, to all school aged children, to college and young adults, to middle aged adults and older adults. I’ve worked in schools, daycares, clinics, hospitals both acute and psychiatric, and with hospice. I’ve taught life skills, parenting classes to both biological and foster/adoptive parents, and have walked people through grief and end stages of life. Everyone goes through things and it is important that people have someone that is able to meet them in whatever stage or experience they are in.
Along with counseling, I work at a psychiatric hospital and have extensive experience with multiple mental health diagnoses, those experiencing suicidal ideations and facilitating hospitalization as needed. In counseling, I employ a combination of therapy techniques and methods because I believe that no one model totally and completely fits the whole of a person. I have worked with people who have experienced work stress, family stress, relation issues, various types of abuse, domestic violence, various types of trauma, substance abuse in conjunction with mental health (I am not an LCDC), parenting trouble, anxiety, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia and PTSD. I’ve also worked with loved ones of those diagnosed with mental health in order to help the understand, cope, and learn how to support those with mental health.
Whether it is through counseling with me or any of my teammates, I hope you are able to achieve you goals and feel supported. It’s up to you to take the first step and you CAN do it! If you’re visiting this website contemplating if counseling is for you, it is. Counseling is for everyone and you’re on the right track!
